XYZ Ω Design: Aggressive Performance

With the increased number of hurricanes and other severe coastal storms, the XYZ Ω has been designed from the beginning to HOLD in extreme conditions. That includes the ability to WITHSTAND sudden, severe wind impact regardless of wind direction.

The XYZ Ω is designed to actually INCREASE its digging angle with a sudden increase in pulling force on the rode, REGARDLESS of the angle of pull (even if the pulling angle changes by as much as 180°). AND, once set deep, the XYZ Ω is designed to stay buried even if the scope is shortened to as little as 2:1.

To achieve that performance, The XYZ Ω was designed as an entirely new anchor, not a modification of some other design. Development was done mainly at the XYZ facility in New York, with other field-testing done in Florida, the Caribbean, Alaska, the Croatian coast, and other locations. In addition to the physical testing, high end CAD programs used in the aerospace industry were used to measure more than 1,000 parameters every second during dynamic simulation testing. The results of this extensive testing led to many small, but significant changes to the original prototype design.

Made With Precision in:
316 Marine Grade Mirror Polished Stainless Steel
or High Quality Hot Dip Galvanized Steel

NO ROLL-BAR which can prevent an anchor from digging deep, while only helping to adopt a good setting attitude.

NO FRONT BALLAST to increase total weigh (by up to 40%) while only helping rotation.

NO HEAVY, BENDABLE and LONG DULL SHANK to prevent the anchor from penetrating (but increases total weight by up to 60%)

NO ALUMINUM that has very limited setting capabilities due to light specific weight. Aluminum is just not strong enough to withstand extreme loads. An aluminum anchor may bend or even break in extreme conditions. All of the popular aluminum anchors that we tested on deep sand seabed broke out under extreme force due to deformation. ANCHORS THAT DO NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE SECURITY ARE CONSIDERED UNSAFE. For those reasons XYZ Marine Products does not produce or recommend use of aluminum anchors

The anchor on your boat should be like the brakes on your car: designed for use in the most severe situations! When your life and your boat depend on an anchor, there should be no compromise. With an XYZ Ω, there ARE NO COMPROMISES.

The XYZ Ω has been tested under EXTREME loads. 5/16”/8mm chain broke - the XYZ Ω held!

When set in a good holding bottom, using the standard recommended size rode, the XYZ Ω's holding power will exceed the strength of the rode.
THE XYZ Ω MAY BE THE ONLY ANCHOR TO ACHIEVE THIS ENORMOUS HOLDING POWER.

important notes:

It should be understood that the extreme high holding power of the XYZ Ω anchor applies ONLY to GOOD bottom conditions, such as deep, consistent sand. Some seabed surfaces offer poor holding to ANY anchor. The setting and holding ability of ANY anchor is not only a function of anchor size, weight and design; it is also a function of the seabed surface and its substance.

Performance data on hard to penetrate bottoms are unreliable, therefore are not presented on XYZ Marine Products website. Performance data for XYZ anchors, are also based on using appropriate size rode for the anchor weight and boat length. XYZ Marine Products does not grant any warranty on holding power or performance.

Testing to failure was done several times using various 11 lbs/5kg – 32lbs/15kg XYZ anchors. In the USA, tests were done on deep consistent and/or mixed sand, at numerous locations in Long Island Sound, NY. We used a 45’/15 ton, 400HP fishing boat. The boat is owned by Captain Jim McGinness, who witnessed all the testing. Similar tests have been done on the Croatian Adriatic with boats up to 1000 HP. Tests were done with high RPM achieving sudden impact to the anchor that was properly set. Several times we broke 3/4“/20mm (rated at 13,000 lbs/6 ton) three- strand twisted Nylon rope. We also broke 3/8”/10mm stainless steel cable wire and 5/16”/8mm chain. Of all of the anchor line, chain was the hardest to break! After repeatedly testing to failure, and having the anchor rode fail, the XYZ anchor was carefully inspected. IT SUFFERED NO DAMAGE OR DEFORMATION!

Our destructive testing was dangerous. The tests required substantial engineering knowledge, safety preparation and procedure, and adequate equipment. For safety we, at XYZ Marine Products do NOT encourage such testing.

Variable Digging Angle:

When a sudden, high force is applied, the XYZ Ω is designed to change the its digging angle from 18° to 27°. That enables it to reach great depth (over 20”/50cm) in a very short distance. And at this depth, the breakout force is enormous. In our tests, every time we broke an anchor line, the XYZ Ω anchor was located very deep.
